My Gear
My Running Gear
These are the items I use and trust for training, racing, and trail runs. Each piece has been tested on the road, trail, and everything in between!
Shoes
Altra Torin 7 - Cushioned and responsive for road running. Love the wide toe box and zero drop design combined with the unique design.
Altra Timp 5 - My go to trail shoe, offering great grip with the Vibram soles and aggressive tread. Good cushioning for comfort for long off-road adventures and also zero drop. Also features Velcro strap behind for attaching running gaiters.
Essentials
Decathlon 5L Running Vest - Lightweight, fits snugly, and has enough space for long road or trail runs.
Montane Trail Lite Cap - Breathable and keeps the sun and sweat out of my eyes.
Clothing
Decathlon Kalenji Basic Running Shirt - Lightweight, quick-drying and affordable.
Decathlon Domyos Running Shorts - Comfortable and minimalist.
Decathlon Socks - No blisters, no worries! I also am guilty of using toe socks for extra blister protection on long runs!
Tech & Accessories
Garmin 745 Triathlon Watch - Tracks my runs, heart rate, and pacing.
Sinner Sport Sunglasses - Lightweight and polarized for bright days. Also work well for cycling.
Cold Weather Gear
Inov8 Running Gloves - Thin but warm enough for winter runs.
Buff Neck Gaiter - Great for chilly mornings or wind protection.
New Balance Long Sleeve Quarter Zip - A fantastic charity shop find and my go to when the weather is in the low single digits.
My Triathlon Gear
These are all items that I've used to complete triathlons and I'll continue to update this list as I get new gear and do more triathlons!
Bike
Carrera Virtuoso - I paid £65 for this bike on Facebook marketplace and it hasn't failed me. I spent an additional £100 fixing it up.
Giro Helmet - Second hand helmet. I've also got another basic helmet from Decathlon.
Pedals and shoes coming soon!
Swim
Decathlon Van Rysel Tri Suit - Lightweight, fits snugly, and came with a great price tag.
Zone3 Advance Wetsuit - I haven't had any issues so far and is a great beginner wetsuit for your first triathlons.
TYR Swim Goggles - definitely not the best and would recommend getting goggles with UV protection for outdoor swimming.
Run
Altra Torin 7 - easy jam your fit and lace up post swim.
Hiking/Camping
Tried and tested in the rough Scottish Highlands (and our back garden).
Tent
Naturehike Cloud Up 3 person - A lightweight entry level tent. It's easy to set up, waterproof, spacious (for 2) and all you need to get started.
Sleeping System
Snugpak Travelpak 3 Lightweight Sleeping Bag - Lightweight, fits snugly, and has enough space for long runs.
Exped Flexmat Ultralight Foam Camping Mat - Lightweight, folds away easily and provides an extra layer of insulation.
Peter Storm Thermals - Breathable, keeps you warm at night and decently priced.
Cooking System
Soto Amicus Stove with Stealth Igniter - Never failed us once. Could take longer on windier days but using the tent vestibule worked a treat.
Soto New River Pot 1L - At the limit of what you can get away with for 2 people. I'd recommend 1.3L for 2. Compact and lightweight.
Jetboil Fuel Can Stabiliser - Keeps the stove and pot from toppling over! Absolutely essential as flat ground is a scarcity outdoors!
Collapsible Bowls - We got dog bowls for £75p from Tesco and they worked a treat!
Lifeventure Cutlery Set - Lightweight, company and clips together.
Snowpeak 450 Titanium Mug - Lightweight, durable and perfect for a hot drink on a frosty morning.
Essentials
Osprey Talon 55l Backpack - Lightweight, stylish and in the mid range. The hip straps were not the most comfortable so I recommend wearing the bag plenty before any long travels.
First Aid Kit - Take what you realistically think you'll need/use.
Super Sponge - Don't carry a wet tent around all day. A sponge like this absorbs the moisture easily.
Vango 2L Hydration Bladder - Perfect for easy access to water without slowing you down.
Lifestraw Water Filter - All you need to pick up extra water on the trail.
Headtorch - Just make sure you have a spare.
This is not an exhaustive list, but I hope helps give you an idea of what you need for whatever activity you plan to undertake. If you have any recommendations, let me know and I can test them out!
